Profile Pictures

I have been debating on updating my profile picture since the one that I am using (on ALL of my online profiles) is quite dated.  Though I probably should change it, I'm just not quite ready to yet.

How many of you have a special story behind your profile picture?  I'm sure we all do.  After all we selected a particular photo to represent who we are.  Today, I'd like to share my profile picture story.  I'll hope that you will share your story too!

First off, I'll share the bigger picture since all that you would normally see is a thumbnail version. This photo was taken on September 18, 2010 at the San Diego Zoo.  At the time, my husband & I were 3 month old parents.  We were a brand spanking new mommy & daddy duo to an angel of a child.  He never cried much and the times that he did - he was very easily soothed.  We were lucky and we knew it.

I like the "calm" that I feel when I see this picture and remember this day.  Though I was very tired and suffered from sleep deprivation, as new parents do, I was a relaxed new mommy with a supportive husband. This cleared the way of any "new mommy" anxieties.  My maternal instincts kicked in very strongly.   I felt confident in mothering our baby.  I'm glad that my husband caught this new mommy moment.  Baby & I were relaxed, it was a beautiful day, and his daddy & I loved our family outing.  Prior to our visit to the Zoo that day, I had never seen such a sea of strollers. Though much of the time I "wore" our son in a SleepyWrap:  WE too were there with our stroller.  The place was all abuzz with family.  We were a part of that buzz.  WE too were now a Family.

Tidbits:
  • The sunglasses (which I have misplaced & been searching for since our Hawaii trip) hid my super tired eyes.
  • Baby's Outfit: I hope that one day my son forgives me for putting him in that silly green & white striped ensemble.  In my defense: I had to shield his delicate baby skin from the San Diego Sunshine didn't I?  This was one of the few outfits that came with a hat that was his size at the time.
  • You can see our son's little dimple & his content expression on his little baby face.
  • Yes, I am actually wearing a little lipstick!  Much of my new mom moments did not include any form of make-up use.

Now time to share a photo of my hubby & my bubby from this day!  They are the story behind my profile pic!

My Blog Life: One Year Later

I guess it's an anniversary of sorts.  I've officially had my Blogger account for 1 year now.  I started blogging here on December 2010.  My son had just turned 6 months old and I thought it was time for me to revisit an old hobby of mine: Blogging.  I first started blogging in 2004 (well BEFORE marriage & motherhood).  My first blog was on Xanga.  I fell in love with blogging INSTANTLY.

Some of you may already know my little secret:  that I do TRY to maintain more that one blog. Reason:  I never did find my "niche" with blogging.  I may seem scatter-brained in blog life, but as I see it:  I am organized in my own chaotic way.  I don't find a need for a formula or to follow any guidelines. I blog for the enjoyment of blogging.  Pure & simple.  I am hoping that 2012 will present more time for me to invest in blogging.  We shall see!
I mention my BLOGGER Blogs above because to add to the mix I also have other ventures out there.

This is my life. Thanks for visiting it!

In Stitches

Hi friends! I'm still around. Life sure has been busy. I wish I had more time to blog - but you all know how it is!

Today I had some minor surgery.  I had a biopsy done last month on a small mass on the back of my leg. Thankfully it was benign.  I had it removed via a surgical excision.  I had quite a few stitches since the removal was quite extensive.

Hubby is going to be in super great guy mode as I heal.  We have an 18 month old super active toddler - and I will NOT be able to keep up with him for the next few days.

Husband to my rescue.

Thankful Wife!

My hubby bravely headed out to the grocery store on the night before Thanksgiving. He is such a brave soul! He did escape a diaper change of the smelly sort. I still felt like I got the WIN. Poopy diaper vs. grumpy shoppers doing last minute Thanksgiving dinner shopping, no thank you!

He's in the kitchen now chopping onions (and vocalizing his displeasure with onion chopping) while I watch Yo Gabba Gabba with our little one AND enjoying a tiny bit of online time.

Happy (Thankful) Wife!

Wife's Parents Move

Guest post of the week by Deangelo Spencer

My wife is having a very hard time accepting her parents are getting older. Her family has always been so close and so loving. When we first met, I was jealous of her family. They were honest with one another and enjoyed spending time together. However, her parents now need help doing everything. She finally was able to convince them to move into a smaller and more practical home. However, I think she quickly regretted that. She did absolutely everything. She set up all the utilities, had Atlanta ADT Security installed in the home. She even repainted all of the walls. Her parents just signed all the papers and walked in the door. My wife is a loving person and would do anything for her family, but I think she is working herself too hard. She needs to take a break and rest a little. I know this past month has been very hard on her. I wish there was something I could do to help, but right now the only thing I know is to continue supporting her decisions.

Paycheck Woes

Guest post written by my buddy Lavern Small

I graduated college!! There were times when I never thought this day would come, but it is here and I am super excited! I found my own apartment and a real job. I feel like such an adult! I started my job last week and my first paycheck came today. However, you would think this would be an exciting moment. It wasn’t! I had no idea how much money the government takes out of your pay check. I was in shock when I opened my paycheck and it was a much different number than I expected. I quickly came to the realization that I needed to find a way to save some money and fast. I went to Shopelectricityratestexas.com and got a great rate. I decided to pack my lunch for work instead of eating out and I have decided to only drink water. When you add up all these savings, I will hopefully be within my means after what the government took. Oh well, I guess that is one of the lessons of adulthood. Well, that and register to vote ASAP!

San Diego BEER Week 2011

I'm excited to put up this post because I feel like I've come up with the most brilliant date night for my hubby! Maybe I'll win wife of the year for this one!  Maybe not.

Hubby's birthday is coming up quick and I had NO idea what to do to celebrate.  I wanted to something fun that he would enjoy.

Well, I found an idea! My guy is somewhat of a beer connoisseur.  I found out TODAY that there is a San Diego Beer Week celebration happening during my husbands birthday week! Problem solved!

Now...have to figure out what presents to get for him!

My husband & I are pretty practical when it comes to budgeting & spending. Though we both love all things techie & modern we had been OK with using cell phones the old fashioned way. As a phone. Lawry's Seasoned Salt and Seasoning Mixes

I am thrilled with the opportunity to find meal options that are tasty, full of variety, and most importantly EASY.  With a toddler and full time jobs - meal planning has been neglected for sure!  We are first time parents so we are still developing routines.  I'm sure our dilemma is a common one.

We were selected to review a few options available from Lawry's. I am a BzzAgent and was provided with a variety of goodies to try out.  We received full sized samples of the following items:  Lawry's Seasoned Salt (No MSG), Tuscan Style Chicken Marsala, Southwest Chicken Skillet, and Taco Spices & Seasonings.

These packets are pre-blended with herbs & spices.  Just add meat and veggies! I don't think it can get any easier than that.

In addition to the products that I mentioned, we also received a Red Lawry's Apron.  I'll be sure to photograph Hubby in it!

I also have recipes and coupons that I provided with to share with you.  I have 10 available and will have to distribute them on a first come, first serve basis.  Just let me know if you are interested.

We just received our care package so we haven't had a chance to try the recipes out yet.  We are excited to share our experiences with you. Please stay tuned!

Aside from the Seasoned Salt, I have not tried any of the other products.  I was curious if any of you have?  If so, I'd love your feedback!

T.G.I. FRiDAY’S Entrées for One!

This post brought to you by T.G.I. FRiDAY'S. All opinions are 100% mine.

I don't know how some of you other married folks with children can manage to do home cooking every night...but I applaud you if you can and do. However, in our household we often do "quick and easy meals" during the week since hubby both work outside of the home and our energy when return home is always on our toddler.

On some nights it's so much easier to grab something from the freezer to heat & eat.  I will be the first to admit that it can get BORING and fast!  Some nights our tastes & cravings are markedly different so I find the new line of T.G.I. FRiDAY’S “Entrées for One” to be a good solution.   So if he wants fajitas & I'm craving pasta - we can both get our fix!

When I think of T.G.I. FRiDAY’S, I automatically associate the restaurant.  During our time dating, my husband & I would often go in for lunch and always left with a great dining experience.  We do enjoy the casual dining out experience, but since it's not always practical - we can still enjoy T.G.I. FRiDAY’S style cuisine.  I've learned that this line includes nine new entrées inspired by the bold and fun flavors of the famed T.G.I. FRiDAY’S restaurants.  They include items like Sizzling Steak Fajitas & Cajun-Style Chicken Alfredo, not to mention the new varieties which will keep us from frozen food boredom.

I purchased the Prime Rib Stroganoff for the hubby and guess what? He liked it. He is very honest about tastes and not a big pasta fan. I thought I would sway him with the "Prime Rib". I don't think the portion was quite enough for his exceptionally hearty appetite but he did seem to enjoy it!  We haven't tried the many other selections yet but I have my eye on the Sesame Orange Chicken! Sounds yummy!

Check out T.G.I. FRiDAY'S  Fun Freezer contest for a chance to win cool prizes (including a home theater makeover)!  Make your freezers at home a bit more fun by decorating them with your unique flair and then enter the contest by uploading a picture on Facebook.

My Gourmet Guy: Let's revisit!

A while back I posted my hunky hubby in the kitchen "whipping" up some ribs, read the post My Goumet Guy.  I'll admit - I DO NOT cook often enough.
He loves me anyway.  We both work full time so we usually do quick and easy for dinner.  With a 15 month old toddler - it's just the way of the world for us right now.

I wanted to get in on the Lawry’s BzzCampaign for BzzAgent because I know that my personal chef (AKA Hubby) is a magician with Marinades!

So friends, please root for us that we get chosen to try out Lawry's marinade!  We just might share what Chef Hubby creates!

Inspired by Tiffany Noth

I honestly wish that I had more time blog more often, but it's pretty tough since I do work full time outside of the home and we are very busy keeping up with our 15 month old son.  I just had to share this post because I am feeling a whole bunch of gratitude for my marriage that I couldn't contain my desire to share.

I am thankful that my husband & I have a mutual respect for one another. Life can be hard enough without adding an unhappy household to the mix.  We both have our fair share of stressors in life and can get on each other's nerves but do our best for the sake of our family.  In preparing for marriage, our spiritual advisor (who was married before becoming a priest after his wife passed away) taught us that the best gift that we could share with our future children is to love one another.  He encouraged us to demonstrate our love and respect for one another. We have started to see that lesson in action.  When my husband gets home from work and greets me with a hug and kiss, our son runs right up to us and wants to make it a family hug.  He then gives kisses to each of us.  Again, he is only 15 months old but knows that we love each other.

I do on occasion get to read some inspiring posts.  Today, I read one written by Tiffany Noth of A Bloggy Mom.  I found it to be a great reminder and wanted to share that with you all.  Please read her post: Marriage, Wifehood, Respect.  Thank you Tiffany for reminding us all of the importance of respecting each other.  As Tiffany points out, we try to teach our children about respect - what better way than to teach by example?

Do you have any lessons that you have learned along the way that can be useful to newly married couples?  Please share.

Husband To The Rescue, Again.

For the past few days I had been suffering with a Migraine.  Poor timing as we had a day off for Labor Day on Monday.  I spent a the majority of that day in bed.  I had to work on Tuesday which is also when the pain and nausea peaked. It's not a surprise that this put me into a Crappy Mood.  I struggled through my workday but had to bail about half way through as I was overcome by throbbing pain and severe nausea.  I was barely able to drive and about half way home I just KNEW that I was going to barf.  I scanned the car frantically for something to throw up into. Luckily I found an empty plastic bag on the floor of the passenger side. WHEW!  OK, TMI.  Back to my Hero Hubby again.  Well - I did feel a smidgen better after I hurled, but not well enough to function.  While I rested my husband took over for a defeated Mommy.  He fed and bathed our little boy.  Normally I am on bath duty and until then hubby hadn't really given our guy a bath unassisted.  Now that I know that Daddy is great at the task of bathing, I just may let him take over bath time from now on!  Headache or not.  On second thought - I'll continue with bath time...I would much rather do that then take the trash out.

Guest post from: Steve Delaney

Being away from home and not being able to access Driect tv Internet can sure leave you out of the loop. I went camping and didn’t get to check my e-mail for a week. I felt like I had notified everyone that I have usual contact with and let them know that I was going out of town. By the time I got back, I had two hundred and twelve e-mails! Thirty-four of the e-mails were junk and promotional mail. The other one hundred and seventy eight e-mails were ones that required – gasp—a response! It was Sunday night when I returned from camping and checked the e-mails. I was too tired and overwhelmed by the shear number of required responses that I couldn’t even start answering them that night. I went to bed and decided that I would take care of business when I went back to the office on Monday. Would you believe that it took a whole four hours to respond to everything! That’s about 1 ½ minutes per e-mail. Next time I go out of town, I will have an auto response.

Married Life: Shopping Simplified!

As a couple, my husband and I mesh very well when it comes to our spending styles.  We both work hard to earn money for our family.  Each of us even has a secondary source of income. He as a videographer/filmmaker specializing in weddings (but not limited to), and me using my online influence with sponsored blog posts.  We both research things for both costs and customer reviews to be as educated as we can be before plopping down our hard earned cash!  I'm sure that we are not the ONLY couple that is this way!  I am very thankful that we are on the same page - I couldn't imagine the conflict that some couples may encounter if one person is a shopaholic and the other is a saver!  We are very practical and considerate with one another when it does come to purchases.  Thank goodness for that!

I have to admit that technology is my friend when it comes to shopping!  Most of my purchases are done online. I love the convenience.  I love that I can earn rewards and find discount codes on almost everything.  I almost NEVER pay any shipping fees.  I have learned to really get the most out of our money that is spent!  I go online to buy baby items, gifts (yay for Wish Lists & Gift Registries), GROCERIES, beauty products, clothing, shoes - even international flower delivery can be be accomplished online!  You name, you've got it!  From gift giving to our daily necessities our shopping life is simplified all thanks to the world wide web!

How many of you enjoy shopping online?

Upromise Dream Wall Sweepstakes

This post brought to you by UPromise. All opinions are 100% mine.
correct spelling_UPromise_Brand_728x90_static.jpg
My husband and I are not only newly married, but are new PARENTS as well.  Naturally our priorities have changed and planning for our child's future is at the forefront.  We have a savings plan in place and will meet with a financial advisor about setting up a 529 plan for our son.  For those of you who are not familiar (as we were not until our child was born): A 529 Plan is an education savings plan operated by a state or educational institution designed to help to save funds for college costs. We have also signed up as Upromise members.  But even with these plans in place, by the time our child reaches college age, it still may not be enough. Costs are constantly rising.   We find it wise to save in every way that we can.  For the sake of our son's future.
Upromise is celebrating its 10th Anniversary and will be giving away a total of $20,000 to users who share a story that tells of how a parent has supported a child's dream.   A contest is in place to help offset the costs for college.  I am very excited about spreading the buzz to other families.  Please visit: www.upromisetodream.com for more about the contest.

I hope that you all accept the challenge for the sake of your child's future. Upromise invites you to DREAM for a brighter future for your child and to SHARE your story with the world.  Simply tell your story of what your dreams are for you child to be entered for a chance in a weekly $1,000 drawing.  Friends and family can help you and your family to make these dreams come true!  All it takes is to vote by selecting "Like".  The entry with the most votes by September 29th wins a GRAND PRIZE of $10,000!

In case you haven't heard about the program:  Upromise by Sallie Mae is a rewards program that can help you pay for college. You can earn with your everyday spending.  When you shop online, eat out, buy groceries or gas you can get a percentage back for all eligible purchases.

I have submitted our dream and hope that you visit the link to the Upromise Dream Wall to see our post: His Dream is Our Dream . We would consider it a "dream come true" for our son to have every opportunity to realize his own dreams.   I am hoping (pleading) that you will read our story and click "Like" - It really would mean a lot to us.  I thank you in advance.

It may be tough to get the most votes by the deadline for the grand prize as the most popular post is (at the time of this writing) already at over 6,000 likes!  But a chance at the $1,000 weekly drawing is a great reason to try.  Winning the cash prizes would be wonderful but it is really is nice just to share your hopes for your child with other like minded families.  Reading the stories is very touching.  Please share yours!

I strongly encourage you to submit your dreams for a chance to win.  I would love for you to share your story with a comment here on my blog post as well.  In the end we all have the same dream for our children:  For their health, happiness, and success.  Please pass this along to your friends and family as I'm sure that we all have special children in our lives that we would like to help to succeed!

BlogHer '11: My 15 Minutes of Fame

Today I read a tweet entitled: BlogHer Conference Update -- August 12, 2011 | BlogHer.  Cool.  Since I attended the conference, I wanted to read the write up.  I open up the attachment and lo and behold!  I see my face!  Admittedly, it is not the most flattering of photos since I am clearly in mid-speech!  I was telling my new blog buddies what I blog about.  I am thrilled all the same.  What a great souvenir of my BlogHer moment!

Asher-Sears Photography

I am now able to cross "Have my photo on front page of BlogHer website" off of the bucket list! It's already quickly being bumped lower and lower on the page as more posts are put up. But at least it was up there at ONE point. I'm giddy!

Also pictured is Nicole Aro of The Sunlight Foundation which is a non-profit. I met a few ladies that are involved with non-profit organizations. She was kind enough to ask if I wanted company at breakfast since I was eating alone. It touched me even more that she came up to me because there were PLENTY of other empty tables available.

BlogHer '11: Day 1

Too tired to blog about it as there is SO MUCH to say! I will post a few photos though. I didn't bring a camera since I didn't have a buddy to snap photos for me/of me/with me. I will bring one tomorrow.  I apologize in advance for the poor quality photos taken with my DumbPhone.  I think I was the only one in the entire Convention Center without a SmartPhone or a Tablet! OH - and the only one without business cards. Well...I ordered some but not in time. Boo.  Oh Well.

Note: No pictures of me with fellow Bloggers = I was feeling shy!  No shyness though with the Sponsors.  Weird, I know.

Get Smart: New App Helps Sprint Customers Find Misplaced Phones

This post brought to you by Sprint. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you are a Sprint customer you are in luck!   Now there is a cool new App that helps to find your misplaced phone!  Available now is the Sprint Total Equipment Protection App.  I haven't upgraded to SmartPhone technology (YET) but hope to in the very near future.  The thought of losing and or damaging an expensive new phone is one of the reasons that I have been hesitant.  Now I have one less reason for worry!  With this new App, I would be covered!

The new app for Sprint Total Equipment Protection (TEP) subscribers is available for Android, Blackberry and select feature phones.  With this app, you would be able to do the following:
  • Locate phone
  • Sync contacts
  • Remote wipe phone
  • Lock phone
  • Sound alarm
If you are a Sprint TEP customer it only takes a few minutes to be up and running.  The best part is that there is no additional cost!
This app make would make life easier by reducing quite a bit frustration.  Many times I have misplaced my phone around the house, sometimes left at the office, and other times left in one of our cars or at a family members home.  Mostly due to my own absentmindedness and on occasion when our son gets his hands on it and puts it in the oddest of places!   And if it were every truly lost (or stolen) I  wouldn't have to worry about someone accessing any personal information as I would have the option to wipe the phone.  The thought of  losing all your contacts wouldn't be a concern either.
If you are a current Sprint customer you can check out and download the app but you only have until August 30 to add the feature to your existing phone. This is a limited time open enrollment so HURRY and please pass this on to your friends & family that have service with Sprint.

HTCEVOSHIFT_GCVS_settings menu.jpg (5 documents) For customers that didn’t enroll in TEP within 30 days of activating their phone, you are in luck. Sprint is holding an Open Enrollment from August 1-30, 2011. This means that as a Sprint customer, you can STILL add the Total Equipment Protection feature. To enroll or learn more visit www.tepenroll.com.

In addition to the new App features, TEP provides Sprint customers with a quick and convenient way to receive a replacement if their phone is ever lost, stolen, damaged or malfunctions after the warranty expires. Keep in mind water damage is included as it is summertime, this feature even covers accidental dips by your phone into the pool or lake (or the toilet)!

TEP costs $8.00 per month. The Protection App included with TEP with no added cost provides the ability to find a misplaced phone with an audible alarm, locate your phone on a map using network integrated GPS technology, remotely lock a missing phone, as well as wirelessly sync and manage and restore your contacts. Should a customer need to file a claim a deductible of either $50 or $100 is required for approved claims. While some people might be discouraged with the tought of a deductible, consider this: have you ever check on the non contract price of that EVO? Well $50 or $100 sounds much better that $449! Even that LG Optimus you thought was free -- $299 is the full retail.

Going on Year 3

My dear husband and I will very soon be celebrating 3 years of marriage.  We have really come together not only as husband and wife but also as parents.  We compliment each other when it comes to parenting.  He is such a great father.  He helps me to be the best mother that I can be and vice versa.  In my short time as a wife and mother I have never felt that everything is "all on me".  Feeling supported and offering support to each other is what gets us  through even the toughest of days.  If I am completely exhausted from a taxing day at work I don't have to be a cranky momma to our son because my husband will be there to play with him, feed him, or just hold him while I decompress.  I wouldn't be a good mom without having my good husband.  It's nice to have him there for me, for us. Our son is a happy child and I am grateful for that.  I'm excited to see what the NEXT 3 years will bring.

BlogHer '11: I'm Going!

I'm Going to BlogHer '11Guess who's going to BlogHer '11?!  I am!  I have been dreaming of going for some time now.  I'll be a first timer.  My husband knew how badly I wished to go and offered to pay my registration fees.  Truly sweet of him but I wanted to make my way there without him buying my way in.  I have been getting my feet wet again in the blogging arena since I had dropped the habit back in 2004.  I  couldn't quite justify the cost.  Especially since I have been a bit directionless.  OK not directionless - just headed off into EXCESSIVE directions!  I'm all over the place when it comes to blogging.  I can't find my niche.  Quite honestly, I don't want one.  I don't want to be wedged into any one place no matter how much I'm told it is a necessity.  Maybe I'll change my ways once I have a few sessions under my belt at BlogHer.  I'm stubborn though - so I doubt it.  It's bad, but I don't always care what "experts" think.  I do what makes me happy.

I looked into doing sponsored posts as a means of  raising funds to spend on my BlogHer registration.  I do work outside of the home and earn a decent living but I refused to spend our family resources on my blogging venture.  So far I'm proud to say that I've earned a pretty penny dabbling in  Sponsored Blog Posts.  Enough in fact to cover the cost of registration PLUS a couple of cute outfits!  It's been a gratifying experience earning money doing something that I enjoy.  Especially since I would be doing it ANYWAY.

I was thrilled when I was invited to participate in a contest sponsored by Naturalizer Shoes & MyBlogSpark (Blog Post: BlogHer '11: Cynthia The Super Hero?!).  The prize?  An entry to win a sponsorship for my attendance to BlogHer '11 and to share some great shoes with conference attendees!

I even attempted to volunteer a few months ago.  The volunteer positions were all filled.  Apparently they fill up quickly.   Recently BlogHer re-opened their call for volunteers.  Of course I had to find out all I could about that.  They were only looking for a few spots to fill.

Today I registered for the conference.  The cost?  $0.  Lesson learned:  Where there is a will, there is a way!

Hmm...now I've got to find a way to obtain a SmartPhone to use while at the convention!  My current phone is ultra low tech!  Do I have time before the conference to locate a sponsor for a SmartPhone and learn how to use one?!  That way I can leave my laptop at home.  If not, how about a sponsor for a stylish and comfortable laptop bag?!  Oooh....a clothing sponsor to help me with my BlogHer '11 "Look".  Maybe a company to offer new hair & make up?  I'm dreaming but like I said: Where there is a will, there is a way!

Meathead Movers

This post is brought to you by Meathead Movers.  All opinions are 100% mine.

How many of you married couples were living together before tying the knot?  For some of us who didn't prior to entering into married life, moving was something to deal with.  Luckily for my husband and I, we didn't require the aid of a professional moving company.  Most of our household belongings were first time purchases (furnishing and appliances)  that were delivered to us.  As our household and amount of joint property has grown,  the possible future need for movers has as well.

Should we ever decide to move I have learned of a company that would be worth checking into: Meathead Movers.  The company name sure does stand out!  What is Meathead Movers?  Professionally Trained Student-Athlete Movers.  A company founded by a couple of high school students eager to earn money.  For more information check out the back story: History of Meathead Movers.

We currently reside in San Diego, and they do have a branch here in our area.  In addition to servicing San Diego County locations, the cover many other counties as well.

What intrigues me most about this organization, aside from it's humble beginnings, is that it turns out that they provide much MORE than moving services.  They give back quite generously to the community.  Here are a few examples:

  • Moving services for women who are victims of domestic violence for FREE
  • Employment to Student Athlete Movers, who are working their way through college
  • Participates in Not-for-profit health care
  • Grants and Sponsorships

They even proudly claim to be the only movers who JOG when not carrying any items (which saves time and money).

I told my husband about this site because he is a big fan of MMA - when I found out that Meathead Movers had ties to UFC, I was excited to share!  Meathead Movers was one of the initial sponsors for Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell.

For The Special Women In Our Lives

I have lived long enough to know that our beautiful treasured jewelry doesn't always have to be given to us but the men in our lives.  There are two very special women in my life that I have the hardest time buying presents for when it comes to Mother's Day, Birthday's or for Christmas presents.  In our family gifts are never "expected" and extravagant items are not something that either of these ladies would seek out for themselves.  These special women in my life are my mother and mother in law.  They are "hard to buy for" because they both truly want nothing more than to spend moments together as family.  Both find more joy in giving versus receiving.

Accepting presents doesn't seem to be something either seems to take to naturally.  We usually find other ways such as dining out or taking them on all expense paid vacations to honor them. One day (after discussing with my hubby) I would really like to "gift" them with something very special. It would have to be when they least expect it because getting them to accept could be tough!  Our hopes are that they will accept it as a token of our admiration, gratitude, and love for each of them. Both mom's would probably make my husband and I return items such as a 3 carat diamond ring or 4 carat diamond ring even though we feel that our mother's deserve that (and more) for all that they are and all that they do.  They are just practical that way when it comes to spending, which is a wise lesson that they have taught us.  They would much rather the money be spent on their children & grandchildren than on themselves.  Such selflessness makes for an even greater desire to shower our Mom's with something truly special!  Gifts such as clothing, perfumes, and home decor items has proven to be a hit and miss - but a nice piece of jewelry sounds like the PERFECT idea!

Her Own Corner Of TV

The Author of this post is Cheryl Martinez

When I first saw commercials for the Tyra Banks show, I thought it was a goner the moment it first aired on television. I had no idea that this host would be able to win over so many people, myself included, and years later I'm still watching the Tyra show religiously. The topics presented are handled in a very unique way. I find Tyra to be a very likable host, much different from other hosts. When I watch her show, I learn new things but I also find the opportunity to just enjoy her personality and the show without really getting too involved in the topics. It's not as emotionally draining as an Oprah show.

Watching Tyra has become one of my main routines in life. I watch her on my satellite TV, that I got after seeing these www.cabletelevision.net, and sometimes watch it with friends so that we can all discuss the topics included in the show. While it's my favorite talk show, it's just one of the many shows that I enjoy daily. I never miss an episode of Tyra if I can help it and anxiously look forward to the next show and topic that she covers. I love her audience, too, there's just such a friendly environment in her studio audience and Tyra herself always seems to be having such a wonderful time doing her show that I can't help but have a good time too.

My Husband, The HERO

I was reminiscing about my pregnancy last year and feeling so very thankful for my husband.  He was with me throughout our pregnancy.  With the exception of the first appointment when my doctor confirmed that I was pregnant and during the 3 hour glucose test - he was at every appointment.  I say that he is my hero for many reasons. With every craving he would be out the door and get whatever baby & I wanted.  When my feet were sore & swollen: he would rub them for me.   When I had to roll out of bed every five seconds to pee: he would give me nudge (a SHOVE by the end of the pregnancy). We had our evening ritual (which I recommend to all pregnant couples):  Every night (around once I began to "show") I asked hubby to rub my belly and talk to our son...It was wonderful for bonding as husband and wife AND for our son to recognize daddy's voice.  An added benefit: the coco butter, belly balm, oil etc..kept my skin supple.  I didn't get any stretchmarks.  It's hard to believe that almost a year has passed...

Dr. Husband

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not the world's best patient when I am sick. Being sick is never fun but being sick as a new mom adds even more to the stress of being sick. With sleep deprivation and the worry about our baby catching the bug that I was dealing with, I had to put our care solely in the hands of my husband.  I can confidently say that I am able to trust my husband with the care of our son and Dr. Husband with the care of a cranky, ill wife.  I was out of commission for about a week with cold and flu symptoms. During that time my son never lacked for care. I didn't have to worry about my baby because hubby had it under control.  All I could do was stay in bed and get rest.  This can be tough to do when you are coughing, suffering with a sore throat, and full of aches and pains.  During my illness I took Walgreens Brand Multi-Symptom Nighttime Cold & Flu Relief.  It works as well as the name brand nighttime relief medicine at a fraction of the cost.  We first tried Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products when our infant son needed pain relief from teething.  We now choose carefully when purchasing over the counter medicines as we learned that we can save money without worrying about sacrificing quality.  Most contain the same active ingredients as other national brands and we trust  Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products.

Friday Featurette

Happy Friday Everyone! We have survived yet another work week. If you don't know by now, I must tell you that I truly enjoy promoting other Bloggers. I try my best to feature a Blogger that has inspired me. When I find something great, I have this uncontrollable urge to share!  This week I hope that you all check out Man Wife and Dog Blog

I enjoyed this post so much that I had to share it with all of you other "marrieds"! We've all heard the reference "who wears the pants" in the relationship...

Read: Who Wears The Shorts In Your Marriage?

"If your relationship is healthy then neither of you would wear the pants; instead you both wear the shorts. Meaning you’re both half responsible for every decision, and outcome in your marriage."

I contacted Charli (the wife) who writes Man Wife and Dog Blog and she graciously gave me permission to feature her blog on my post.  As a newly married woman I really appreciate great marriage blogs!   I have been able to relate to quite a few posts but could not list them all! So please check out this blog and let me know  what you think! I hope that you find this blog as inspirational as I do!

You can also find Man Wife and Dog on Facebook and Twitter .

"Happily Ever After Tip": Watch Your Wedding Video

Sorry folks, I had to forgo my Friday Feature as I haven't had much of a chance to peruse any blogs since I am just returning from our vacation. So in lieu of featuring a marriage related blog I've decided to share a marriage tip!  I cannot claim this to be my own idea as it is not.  But I still find it worth sharing.  My husband and I had about a year long engagement and during that time we really focused on marriage preparation.  With guidance from our priest we set our sights on creating a strong foundation.  (Note: He is the only priest in our parish who had at one time been married as he entered the priesthood after his wife's passing).  Since our spiritual advisor had real life experience it made us very comfortable knowing that he knew what he was talking about! We also participated in Engagement Encounter which addresses that "a wedding is a day, a marriage is a lifetime".  We gained quite a bit of useful information. Of the many things that we learned one of my favorites is from a suggestion made by one of the long-time married couples:  watch your wedding video and look at your wedding photos from time to time.  Remind yourself of how joyous you were and how happily & freely you each entered the promise "through good times and bad", "in sickness and in health", etc... It is especially useful when you are feeling annoyed with one another.  Every anniversary I make it a point to watch.  Admittedly the entire video is much too long to watch often.  Luckily my husband made a "highlight" video.  I used to cringe when seeing myself get all happily choked up and on the verge of tears as I am not very comfortable with any public displays of raw emotion.  I am getting better though.  I love seeing my husband and I so happy that I watch it from time to time even when I am not annoyed!  I would LOVE to hear about your marriage tips! Please share!

I must note that ALL of the marriage prep discussions that we had from people including our priest, to the couples hosting the Engagement retreat, to our friends and family who are married...They ALL shared that EVERY marriage has its tough times and that being married is not easy. Staying married is happier when you see and remember the day it all started. Watch your video. Together!

Friday Featurette

Please excuse me as I try to clever with today's post! This is in honor of Lindsay, her marriage, and her blog Life As 5. I wanted to share this, because her post made me happy. Married life is a dynamic one and though there are tons of "mommy" blogs that address motherhood - there aren't many (that I have found) that honors married life. I've decided to dedicate my Friday posts featuring other Happy Wife, Happy Life stories!  I know that life isn't always "rainbows & butterflies" but I always love an inspiring post!

And to think that I thought that I was the only one with a super duper husband?! Hooray for husbands that love their wife!

Read her story: Life As 5: Let's hear it for the boy...: "I love my husband. Do you want to know why? No, not really? Well, too damn bad it's my blog and i'll post what I want! Time for a list! ..."

Check out Life as 5 on Facebook too!

See you next Friday - I'm on a quest to find the next inspiring post!

"First Time" Friday

Do you remember how you felt your FIRST TIME?  Were you nervous & scared?

I wanted to share. Let's do First Time Friday shall we? Oh kids, minds out of the gutter. I am NOT talking about THAT first time.  I'm talking about your very first time blogging.

I am hoping that some of you will play along and share your first blog post via comment.  Please leave a link to the very post that you have written, the date of the post, and a few of your thoughts.

I'll start:
XANGA - WHY I'M HERE Posted 10/6/2004 5:45 PM.  I was excited but nervous about what information I put out on the world wide web.  Once you put it out there - It's there. Forever.  I have since closed my first blog recently reactivated it and left only a handful of posts.  I am a little embarrassed by my first attempts but now I am a much more confident blogger.  It's now more about what I want to do, say, and share.  In the past it was more of a worry that will others like me? Will anyone read my blogs? How do I get better at it?  Then - BAM, I was addicted!  I stopped for a few years but have since returned to my beloved hobby.

Money Honey

Today I read an interesting article on Marital Finances. I was wondering how other "marrieds" felt about it. Here's my informal poll. Jump in with a comment if you have an opinion.

Check out the article and chime in:  Are Separate Bank Accounts Right for Your Marriage?

Personally, we fall into the Yours, Mine, and Ours category. It works out very well for us.

Happy Hubby, Happy Wife

It goes both ways. We all know that.

I stumbled upon something that hubby & buddies would enjoy:

Hooters has a special.  Buy 10 wings and get 10 free.

We love our hot wings - I prefer Wings N Things myself. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-Hooters Girls or anything. We actually went on a date to Hooters in Downtown San Diego once before we were married.  I just think that Wings N Things tastes better and we usually get it to go so that I can really get messy when I chow down.

The nitty gritty:
Valid at Participating Restaurants. Dine in Only. Offer available all day on April 24th. Wings served in increments of 10, additional charge for dressing.  They charge for the dressing?! I prefer ranch to bleu cheese dressing. How about you?

Aww...too bad Honey - we already have plans for April 24th.

*The opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine. I did not receive compensation and do not represent this company in any way.

Whew...What a Weekend!

My Weekend Recap

Friday:
Surprise 40th birthday party for my brother in law. It was a happy celebration. However, eating a veggie burger at a BBQ joint was a slight bummer.  We made up for it with ice cream cake.

Saturday:
I actually had time to clean my house.  I mean really clean, not just tidy up. First, I took my son out for a walk. I have to tell you all that I love my go-to, no-fail nap trick! It works every time. Bonus:  I get to have a great workout.  I "wear" him while I walk so I have a 20 lb "weighted" walk. We bond. He falls asleep. I get a great workout + fresh air + sunshine. Win-win.  After our walk I asked my husband to lie down beside him since he naps much longer that way. I wasn't too surprised to find that hubby ended up napping also.  I should have taken a photo.  As they napped I had a full 2 hours of uninterrupted cleaning time.Yay! The Shocker: I want to do more!

Sunday:
Church with my 2 guys.  We are there every Sunday but this was our son's first Palm Sunday Mass. To see him raise his palm frond along with the entire congregation was heartwarming.  He blew flying kisses to the people near us during the Rite of Peace - they couldn't help but come up to him.  He kept waving to them after. He is such a charmer. Just like his daddy.

Later...off to a spa day with my 2 sister in laws (hubby's side). We had massages in the afternoon followed by lunch with the whole family.  While the mommies were "spa-ing" the daddies had all 6 boys!  No injuries.  Woo-hoo.  Imagine that:  6 (very active) boys with 3 dads in charge. 3 boys still in diapers...

Your turn! What did you all do this weekend?

More on Married Life (Not just my own)

I like finding posts about marriage.  I found this one through some Mommy Blogs that I follow.  Check out Heidi of Sacred and Profane and her über honest post:  If I'm Being Honest .

What do you all think about that?  Just curious on what your thoughts are.
